Weather

Marakele’s weather in general.

Dry season - May to September (Considered Winter Months)

Rainfall in the park is very scarce during the winter season and, therefore, humidity is almost non-existent. Due to this water sources dry up and animals often travel closer to the camps to seek out and stay close to those that they do find. Rosy mountain ranges and green plains, providing the best conditions for viewing wildlife & bird species.

Wet season - October to April - (Considered Summer Months)

Although the heat and humidity can get fairly stifling during the summer, it isn't as uncomfortable as it can be coastally. With average temperatures of 32°C, afternoon rains are welcomed as they break the heat of the day. Drizzle can sometimes occur throughout the whole day.

Marakele is typical of all places located in the Southern hemisphere that experience seasonal changes differently than their counterparts in the northern hemisphere: summer is wet and humid, while winter is dry and mild. The wet summer months (October to April) are hot but with not nearly the humidity of parks near the coast, such as Kruger. Most rainfall comes in the form of heavy thundershowers or soft rain. Dry winters (May to September) are moderate during the day, but cold at night and in the morning, making the packing of warm, dry clothing essential for completing a full day's activities.

Altitudes within the park vary in large degree and the climate follows suit accordingly. Even though the upper reaches are inaccessible mountain peaks, temperatures still range widely within the park as the temperature lowers approximately 6.5°C per every 1000m as you ascend.
